Husband, Father, Retired Marine, Current Social Studies Teacher, Loyal Pittsboro Community Member
My name is Alex Brinker, and I am asking for your vote for Town Commissioner. This is an open seat. I want you to know who I am, and I hope to earn your support to fill this role in our charming town.
My family and I moved to Pittsboro in 2016. Both of my older two children graduated from Northwood, and (what my wife and I call our “batch 2”) our twins currently attend Pittsboro Elementary. I am an active member of the community. I have met many of you while coaching youth football with the Chargers, refereeing for NFL Flag Football, and cheering as a fan in the stands at Northwood!
I have spent my adult life dedicated to service. I retired from the United States Marine Corps after almost 22 years. My time in the Marines prepared me to hold positions of responsibility and make decisions that were not always popular but were in the best interest of the mission. I served as a First Sergeant for 3 of my 5 deployments focused on Bulk Fuel to route clearance to construction projects. I have proven that I can complete tasks even under stress. The leadership skills I learned in the Marines helped guide me as I transitioned into civilian life. and into positions of leadership at GKN Automotive in Sanford.
After working in manufacturing for 7 years I went back to college to complete my bachelor's degree and started substitute teaching. I found my passion and have become a full time Middle School Social Studies Teacher.
I enjoy giving back to the community each year by serving with my family, to organize and distribute toys to local children through our annual Chatham County Toys for Tots Campaign. Through this program, I have seen many needs for our community that are not being met, and I hope to make a difference if elected.
I have decided to run for this position because I have seen tremendous growth in Pittsboro, and I have been lucky enough to continue to raise my children here. I want my 6-year-olds to grow up with the same experience with small-town charm, safety, and strong community spirit that we have had since moving here almost 10 years ago.
